Wine Experience Walk Upper Rheingau

This approx. 18 km long track, designed by winegrowers of this region, leads from Massenheim via Wicker, Flörsheim, and Hochheim to Mainz-Kostheim and strikes the most beautiful views and most interesting points of the vine scenery.

The gym and culture hall in Massenheim in the Untergasse serves as the official starting point of the Wine Experience Walk Upper Rheingau. However, the track can also be done backwards or walked or cycled in stages, starting from any point.

Altogether 40 different info points along the track impart interesting facts about nature, culture, and history - directly at the place of action. Children are accompanied by the little dog ‘Grandpatte’, present on many signs, with games and riddles through the vineyards.

Wine Experience Walk in Hochheim

In Hochheim, for example, soil profiles of single vineyard sites are depicted and explained in a very comprehensive way. Information about the perfect climate conditions, the wine year of a winegrower as well as the wines and viticulture impart knowledge which will be merrily presented at the next wine tasting with friends. Of course, information on sparkling wine production cannot be missed in a wine and Sekt (sparkling wine) town.

The undoubtedly vital role of the Main river, as a source for food and transportation way, is also shown in detail on the way.

You will also pass the Queen-Victoria-Memorial, which was erected to honor the visit of British Queen Victoria. Until today wine from the location Königin-Victoria-Berg is delivered to the British court. What the phrase "A good hock keeps of the doc" means, an information board explains in front of the monument.

The former American president Thomas Jefferson also visited Hochheim and took vines back home to plant them. This vineyard still exists today.

The route of the Wine Experience Walk in Hochheim am Main can be wonderfully connected with a quick stop in the protestant church in Massenheim, the first wine museum in Hessen, the historic old town, or the town’s landmark, or the catholic church St. Peter and Paul. Hikers and cyclists experience the outstanding Hochheim wine, delicious food, and Rheingau hospitality in one of the 16 wine taverns in Hochheim the best.
